Failure Analysis

Axess provides failure analysis of damaged equipment. The testing is usually divided into two phases, based on typical requirements for evaluating a failure. Work may be revised once additional information about the equipment becomes available.

Failure Analysis Examples

Phase 1

  1. Review and evaluation of background information relating to the equipment
  2. Conduct as-received visual examination and photo documentation of the equipment
  3. Disassembly and sectioning of the equipment for further analysis
  4. Conduct visual assessment and photo documentation on the interior of the equipment.
  5. Conduct alloy chemical analysis of components of interest by Optical Emission and Spectroscopy
  6. Conduct Phase 1 Report

Phase 2

  1. Examine damage and associated corrosion products at high magnifications using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) on components of interest
  2. Examine corrosion products or residue from components of interest using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD)
  3. Conduct mounting, polishing, and micrographs to assess cross-section and microstructure through components of interest.
  4. Conduct microhardness testing on any components of interest
  5. Conduct Phase 2 Report
